A partir de encuentros cotidianos en torno al teñir y a los vínculos que las mujeres han entablado con los apus (montañas sagradas) nace la idea de recuperar y reinterpretar memorias iconográficas presentes en los textiles y en el imaginario colectivo de las comunidades altoandinas en Perú. Memorias e íconos que hacen parte de las cosmovisiones y la cotidianidad de las mujeres Riqchari Chaska, aunque ya no sean realizadas en la labor textil.
Durante dos meses nos reunimos a vincularnos, sentipensar y traer al presente historias, prácticas y saberes en un intercambio intergeneracional que nos fue llevando a íconos que representan montañas, cerros, lagunas, ríos, ojos, animales y botánicos presentes en los textiles que en otros tiempos se hacían. De allí nació la idea de reinterpretarlos con nuevas técnicas de teñido que permitieran repensar las conexiones en el presente.
Esta práctica se materializó en la reinterpretación de tres iconografías locales (orqo: cerros, mayu: río; waka ñawi: ojo de vaca) realizadas a través de la técnica de dibujo con leche proteica realizado previo a la tintura. Los resultados materiales fueron piezas utilitarias en algodón teñido con botánicos locales de la comunidad de Mullakas Misminay que se incorporaron a Mater Sostiene, una plataforma donde se visibiliza y comercializa los productos resultantes de proyectos desarrollados con las comunidades en Mil Centro.
The idea of recovering and reinterpreting iconographic memories present in the textiles and in the collective imaginary of the high Andean communities in Peru was born from daily encounters around dyeing and the links that women have established with the apus (sacred mountains). Memories and icons that are part of the cosmovision and daily life of the Riqchari Chaska women, even though they are no longer used in textile work.
For two months we met to bond, to think and bring to the present stories, practices and knowledge in an intergenerational exchange that led us to icons representing mountains, hills, lakes, rivers, eyes, animals, and botanicals present in the textiles that were made in the past. From there was born the idea of reinterpreting them with new dyeing techniques that would allow us to rethink the connections in the present.
This practice materialized in the reinterpretation of three local iconography (orqo: hills, mayu: river; waka ñawi: cow’s eye) carried out through the drawing technique with protein milk carried out prior to dyeing. The material results were utilitarian pieces in cotton dyed with local botanicals from the community of Mullakas Misminay that were incorporated into Mater Sostiene, a platform where the products resulting from projects developed with the communities in Mil Centro are made visible and marketed.

En las faldas del Apu Wañinmarcca y muy cerca del pueblo de Maras y del yacimiento arqueológico de Moray se encuentra la comunidad Mullakas Misminay a 3700 msnm.
Entre montañas y cerros los habitantes de la comunidad se despiertan con la vista imponente del Apu Chicón y con el abrazo de la Cordillera Urubamba, imponente y protectora. Sus chakras (cultivos) se encuentran a lo largo del territorio y son la matriz de la vida.
In the foothills of the Apu Wañinmarcca and very close to the town of Maras and the archaeological site of Moray is the Mullakas Misminay community at 3700 meters above sea level.
Between mountains and hills, the inhabitants of the community wake up to the imposing view of the Apu Chicon and the embrace of the Cordillera Urubamba, imposing and protective. Its chakras (crops) are found throughout the territory and are the matrix of life.
