This is an audiovisual self-portrait where I looked for a space to understand the relationship I had with cigarettes. It came to be done at a time when the act of smoking was becoming more overwhelming and I became more anguished to continue smoking, with an inner impotence of wanting to stop consuming it but without taking actions embarked upon for that purpose

Through this project I clarified my doubts and questions that for several months were haunting my mind. In the process of becoming aware of what smoking meant, I collected the packages of PielRoja that I was consuming as a gesture of making what I was consuming visible. Collect, emphasize what I collected, make my concerns tangibly visible for the purpose of clarifying and then decide to do something about it.

The audio – my voice superimposed repeatedly – is a reflection of my own mind in which multiple thoughts and burdens consumed me just as the cigarette consumed me inside. Fortunately, sometime later I quit smoking, I quit this overwhelming, this little pleasure, this subtle and heavy dependence.

Collecting the packages, visualizing them and laying them out was part of the awareness process of what was happening to my body and my mind due to cigarettes.
